It’s simple to set up, does what it’s supposed to do reasonably well, and plays well with Snow Leopard. Plus it turns what could have been its biggest liability into a great asset. That’s exactly what a good computer accessory is supposed to do.
Observations pro:
1) The best thing about the mouse is the way the little USB transmitter folds into the bottom for storage. Without that storage nook, I would likely lose the tiny (and I mean tiny) USB receiver the moment I removed it from my computer, and this elegant little mouse would have become an elegant little piece of plastic garbage.
2) The optical sensor works well on multiple surfaces of varying smoothness.
Observations con (but not all that con):
1) I wish the mouse used one AA instead of 2 AAA batteries. I *really* wish the battery compartment wasn’t vertical, and the little piece of plastic used to pull the inner battery out hadn’t snapped the moment I tried to pull the batteries out. This is just bad design, and it keeps me from giving this product five stars.
2) The mouse’s default speed was obscenely fast and twitchy–it was almost unusable until I went into my preference pane and slowed it down. A lot.
3) The mouse shuts down after a few minutes of inactivity. On the one hand, there does not seem to be an option to control this behavior. On the other hand, restarting the mouse is easy: just press one of its buttons.
Verbatim, long time storage media specialists (e.g., DVD-Rs, portable external hard drives, USB keys, and for those of you with really long memories, 5-inch floppies), appear to be branching out to new territory in computer accessories. In particular, they appear to be taking dead aim at Logitech. Verbatim’s 96781 is a dead ringer for Logitech’s V450.
If Verbatim can consistently make mice and keyboards of this quality and creativity (see pro #1 above), along with a good solid marketing campaign, they might just give Logitech a run for its money.

I like the smaller USB plug, but I’ve had problems using the mouse with my computer, so right now I’m back to my old one until I can figure out what’s wrong.

Works with both our iMac and my Sony Viao. No problems with this nifty little mouse. No problems at all. I’m happy to report this little baby is sweet.

Ok so I need to address the obvious. Is this truly “nano” size? Absolutely not! The mouse itself is about the size of 80% the length of an iPod touch but with a lot more girth. So whats nano about the mouse? The dongle.
Naming conventions aside, I would still have to give the mouse good reviews, why?
Because the mouse was very accurate in movement. It reacted in the same movement and sped as my hand and that is importanat when working with spreadsheets on a day to day basis. By far a better mouse than the Kensington slim blade (seen in photos). Honestly I will be using this as my primary mouse. Its just so smooth and fluid.
Now as for gaming, forget it. This should be used for normal run of the mill computer work (surfing, spreadsheet, word docs, etc.).
So 2 stars for the size (nano it is not) see my pics
And 4 stars for the accuracy of movement.
Bottom line 3 Stars. Had they not called this a “nano” mouse it certainly would have been borderline 4 star mouse.

The vertical movement is half the speed of the horizontal movement. It can’t be turned off any other way than to take the sending module out of your USB port and insert it into the bottom of the mouse so leaving the stub inserted in your computer is only an option if you want replace the battery every other day. I didn’t load the software that came with it because I don’t feel you should have to. If it’s performance is crappy because of that, then too bad! I have a Logitech that I got at WalMart for under $30 that works much better. Bottom line…pay a few more bucks for the brand name and get a wireless mouse that works better than this one. At this point it sits on my coffee table unused. Verbatim makes a few good products…this is NOT one of them.
